가장 이상한 실험The strangest experiment
파인만이 "양자역학의 모든 신비가 담긴 유일한 실험"이라 부른 것입니다. 입자를 하나씩 쏘면, 각 입자는 스크린의 한 점에 도착합니다 (입자다움). 그런데 수천 개가 쌓이면 밝고 어두운 줄무늬가 나타납니다 (파동다움). 마치 입자 하나가 두 틈을 동시에 지나 자기 자신과 간섭한 것처럼요.
Feynman called it "the one experiment that holds all the mystery of quantum mechanics." Fire particles one by one and each lands at a single point on the screen (particle-like). Yet once thousands pile up, bright and dark stripes appear (wave-like), as if each single particle went through both slits at once and interfered with itself.

① 입자 하나씩이 이 실험의 본체입니다. 처음엔 점들이 무작위로 흩어지는 듯하지만, 수백 개가 쌓이면 줄무늬가 저절로 떠오릅니다. 입자 각각은 어디에 도착할지 확률로만 정해집니다. 기다리기 답답하면 1000개 빠르게 쌓기를 누르면 됩니다.
① One at a time is the experiment itself. At first the dots look random, but after a few hundred, stripes emerge on their own. Where each particle lands is set only by probability. Press Pile up 1000 fast if waiting feels slow.
③ 파장(색)과 슬릿 간격 d를 바꿔 보세요. 파장이 길수록 줄무늬가 넓어지고, 슬릿 간격 d를 넓히면 촘촘해집니다. 설정이 바뀌면 무늬도 다른 무늬가 되므로, 쌓아둔 점은 자동으로 지워지고 처음부터 다시 쌓입니다.
③ Change the wavelength (colour) and the slit spacing d. A longer wavelength widens the stripes; a wider spacing d makes them finer. A new setting means a different pattern, so the dots collected so far are cleared and the pile starts again.
Why it does not split into two lumps: with narrow slits, the pattern from one slit alone already spreads far wider than the gap between the slits. The two patterns overlap almost completely, so adding them gives one hump. What the measurement removed is the stripes, not the spread. Two separate lumps need wide slits and a nearby screen, which is closer to firing bullets.
참고: 파동으로 보기는 같은 상황을 연속된 파동으로 그린 화면입니다. 어느 쪽 그림이든 줄무늬 위치는 똑같이 나옵니다.
Reference: the wave view draws the same setup as a continuous wave. Either picture puts the stripes in the same places.
